Discover Catholic America … in the City of Brotherly Love!
The birthplace of many early American Catholic landmarks, Philadelphia is rich with Catholic history, saints, and sacred sites. This guide highlights historic shrines, notable neighborhoods, and the city’s enduring legacy of Catholic education, as well as some of the nation’s most acclaimed Catholic shrines and beautiful churches.
Philadelphia’s Catholic presence took shape through waves of immigrant communities who built parishes, schools, hospitals, and charitable works that transformed the city’s social and spiritual life.
From the colonial era through the rise of an acclaimed Catholic school system, these institutions formed generations of citizens and civic leaders, securing Philadelphia’s place as a cornerstone of Catholic life in America.
